On January 7, the Göteborg Film Festival 2026 announced its official programme, where The Silence of Snow is one of the selected feature films. The film is part of the Nordic Light section, which highlights artistically strong and contemporary films from the Nordic countries, and is nominated for the Angelos Award, presented annually by the Church of Sweden.
This marks the second consecutive year that a feature film produced by Backa Studios is selected for the Göteborg Film Festival’s official programme, following May You Live, which had its world premiere at the festival in 2025.
The Silence of Snow is a poetic and contemplative film about grief, trauma, and the struggle to continue living when the past refuses to let go. Directed by Malin Dahl and cinematographed by Johnny Wernersson, the film unfolds in a sparse winter landscape where emotions, memories, and quiet imagery intertwine.
The Göteborg Film Festival 2026 takes place between January 23 and February 1. The festival’s theme for the year is Truths, a focus that resonates with the film’s exploration of inner and emotional realities.
